Alejandro Carafí works as an agricultural producer, administrator of a family farming company, and is a member of the CREA group.
In a context where sustainable agricultural practices are becoming increasingly important, agricultural producer Alejandro Carafí stands out for his commitment to the environment and responsible production.
Since 2006, his family business has adopted the RTRS (Round Table on Responsible Soy) certification, a standard that promotes sustainability in soybean production.
“The adoption of the RTRS standard marked a path of continuous improvement for our company,” Carafí explained in an interview with Rivadavia Agro.
Carafí, a member of the third generation dedicated to full-cycle agriculture and livestock farming, described his work as a dedicated effort and expressed, “Being environmentally friendly means caring for it, taking care of the land, which is our workspace. What we produce on it must always follow that premise.”
“At a time when we thought we were organized, we asked ourselves, ‘Are we really doing things right?’ That’s when we discovered RTRS. This standard covered everything we wanted to certify or evaluate in our practices.”
RTRS, he explained, is a certification that applies not only to soybeans but also to corn and potentially wheat in the future. It is based on fundamental principles such as legal compliance, responsible labor conditions, positive community relations, environmental responsibility, and good agricultural practices.
“For the past 12 years, we have followed this path of continuous improvement, which has allowed us to progress and address key aspects of our production,” he added.
According to Carafí, RTRS not only verifies compliance with standards but also pushes companies toward continuous improvement. “Each certification sets new objectives. It’s a one-way journey: you set parameters, adjust, and improve. This includes everything from relationships with neighbors to reducing environmental impact and using more sustainable inputs,” he said.
The implementation of RTRS also marked a turning point in the organizational culture of his family business.
“It was a cultural shift at all levels, from partners to employees. Adapting isn’t always easy, but it has been worth it. This not only improves how we work but also enhances our reputation in the market,” he emphasized.
