European Commission proposes to delay EUDR implementation

Dear RTRS Members,

We would like to inform you that the European Commission has proposed delaying the application date of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) by one year. This proposal is now awaiting approval by the European Parliament and the Council.

Given feedback received from international partners about their state of preparations, the Commission proposes to give concerned parties additional time to prepare. If approved by the European Parliament and the Council, it would make the law applicable on 30 December 2025 for large companies and 30 June 2026 for micro- and small enterprises.

For more information please visit the European Commission site.

Additionally, the European Commission published further Guidance on the EU Deforestation Regulation.

This extension provides an important opportunity for companies to strengthen their strategies that combine EUDR compliance with sustainability practices.

In line with this, in November, RTRS will present to its members for approval the revised Chain of Custody Standard (moving towards version 3.0) and the new Optional Model IV – Requirements for Alignment with EUDR Chain of Custody, designed to help companies meet EUDR due diligence requirements.

We will keep you updated as this proposal progresses and share further details as they become available. RTRS remains committed to supporting its members in understanding and preparing for these requirements.

Best regards,

RTRS
