Record acquisition of certified physical soy in 2024

In a significant step forward for the sustainable soy supply chain, the volume of RTRS-certified physical material adopted by November 30, 2024, reached a historic record of nearly 900,000 tons in Mass Balance. This figure represents unprecedented growth compared to previous years: a 94.79% increase over 2023 (448,218 tons) and a 66.98% increase over 2022 (522,880 tons). In both cases, the volumes were designated for biofuels.

The adoption of certified physical material in 2024 was made by 14 companies working directly with RTRS-certified producers. Among them, the top adopters were Amaggi Trading (Brazil) with 353,979 tons, Bunge Alimentos (Brazil) with 272,506 tons, and Cargill Agrícola (Brazil) with 98,531 tons.

Physical certified sybean destinations

It is also important to highlight that, as of November 2024, of the 14 companies that acquired certified physical soybeans, 10 entered the RTRS certified physical material market for the first time, totaling 42,597 tons, which represents 3% of the total accumulated.

Furthermore, the destination of certified physical soybeans also reveals remarkable trends:

  • 38% (331,176 tons): Compliance with the EU RED Directive for biofuels.
  • 62% (541,909 tons): Adoption by the food industry and animal feed production industry, which showed a significant increase in their acquired volumes.

In this regard, the adoption of certified physical material by the aquaculture industry experienced significant growth this year, representing 8.2% of total adoptions up to November 2024, highlighting the diversification of sectors integrating responsible soy into their value chains. Consolidation of physical certified material acquisition for Biofuels

The accumulated volume of RTRS certified physical material intended for biofuels under the EU RED regulation, acquired until November 30, 2024, recorded a 111% growth, reaching 331,176 tons, compared to 157,090 tons during the same period in 2023.
