Task Forces: an initiative strengthened with a new working methodology

The new working modality of RTRS Task Forces aims to strengthen the existing connection and dialogue spaces, as well as the role of RTRS member organizations at the local level.

In recent years, RTRS Task Forces have solidified their position as fundamental platforms for multisectoral dialogue and cooperation among local soy and maize sector actors. This year, the meetings adopted a new working methodology aimed at enhancing interaction among different stakeholders and strengthening the key role of RTRS member organizations.

Until now, Task Force meetings were held in person once a year. With the new format, meetings will include one in-person gathering and at least two virtual meetings per year. This new approach aims to improve communication, monitoring, and project implementation, ensuring greater participation and collaboration among stakeholders in the soy and maize value chains.

The new format also introduces improvements that enhance the representation of RTRS members and transparency in the processes. From now on, the meetings will be exclusive to RTRS members and open only to certified organizations (Production and Chain of Custody), with the possibility of inviting non-member companies.

Additionally, the Association introduced the role of coordinator, with three representatives per country, one from each membership category: Industry, Trade and Finance; Producers; and Civil Society. This strategy ensures that all sector voices are well represented and considered in the discussions and activities of the Task Forces.

The new working format also includes a specific action plan for each Task Force, with a schedule of deliverables closely aligned with RTRS’s strategic plan.

As a global and multisectoral roundtable, RTRS celebrates this advancement and is committed to strengthening this dynamic, recognizing the commitment of its members to the principles and criteria promoted by the Association.

The key role of RTRS members

The involvement of RTRS members as coordinators is essential. Their role in representing their respective sectors fosters the necessary debate to contribute to the growth of responsible soy production and trade. The Task Forces are establishing themselves as multisectoral spaces that value diverse voices and aim to reflect the needs and perspectives of all local supply chain actors.

RTRS thanks the confirmed coordinators in Argentina and Brazil for their cooperation and commitment. With RTRS members participating in this new role, the Association aims to further strengthen its connection with local demands in Brazil and Argentina, with plans to expand these improvements to Task Forces in Paraguay, Uruguay, and Europe in 2025.
