Successful first semester for RTRS soy

We close the first half of the year with 17 new buyers of RTRS certified material, which represents a volume of 150.000 tons*. The volumes purchased by Central American producers in the aquaculture industry stand out.

The growing demand of RTRS certified material shows, on the one hand, the great commitment of organizations across the soy value chain to promoting sustainable production, processing and trade of soy; and at the same time, it shows the value of RTRS certification as a tool in the soy supply chain to demonstrate compliance with sustainability goals and policies. In this context, more and more organizations are opting for RTRS certified material, either credits or physical soy (mass balance or segregation).

The incorporation of 17 new buyers in the first six months of the year, both RTRS members and non-members, represented a total of 150.000 tons. Most of them are producers in the food industry and aquaculture industry in Central America, specifically from Honduras, Nicaragua; also, from Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, in South America, as well as from Finland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Poland in Europe.

In this semester, the volume purchased in the aquaculture industry was especially significant. Demand in this sector is increasingly stronger since it is aligned with the requirements of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council – ASC for fish farms to demonstrate that ingredients of the animal feed they use come from sustainable sources. In this way, fish feed manufacturers take the commitment to reduce the environmental and social impacts of the aquaculture industry. Companies included in this sector are Inbalnor S.A., GISIS S.A, Vitapro Honduras S.A. de C.F., Cargill Honduras S. de RL., AquaFeed S.A. de C.V., Cargill Nicaragua S.A., Vitapro S.A. and Salmones Antártica SA (Nissui Group of Japan). These buyers purchased more than 43,000 tons of RTRS certified material in this six-month period.

Other nine new buyers from the food industry are: Solae do Brasil Industria e Comercio de Alimentos Ltda (Brazil); Winterbotham Darby, Saputo Dairy, Wynnstay Group P.L.C. and Green Label Poultry Limited (United Kingdom); We Do BV, Glencore Agriculture B.V (The Netherlands);  Haarla Oy (Finland), P.P.U.H. Pasz-Konspol sp. z o.o. (Poland).

A growing number of organizations are opting for RTRS production and supply chain certification models to make their value chains more responsible.
