About the participative and collaborative process for the new RTRS Standard for Responsible Corn Production

In 2015, RTRS developed a first approach towards the RTRS Standard for Responsible Corn Production and, in 2019, the RTRS Executive Board decided to continue with the process in order to launch this new certification scheme in 2020.

Through an open call for participation, RTRS brought together a Working Group responsible for reviewing specific crop-related requirements and their implementation in the certification process.

With the participation of 33 organizations, the Working Group held two face-to-face meetings on August 14 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and September 12 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both meetings included the participation of organizations of all three RTRS constituencies, Producers; Industry, Trade and Finance and Civil Society, as well as representatives from the academic sector, experts and certification bodies, thus ensuring full representativeness of the corn sector.

Finally, RTRS developed the RTRS Standard for Responsible Corn Production V.1.0 Draft published in this Public Consultation, which includes the conclusions and recommendations for sustainable production discussed by the Working Group.

Comments received during the 60 day-period for this Public Consultation will be reviewed and discussed by the Working Group to be then submitted to and validated by RTRS Executive Board.
