QS recognizes the RTRS Standard for Responsible Soy Production

In a significant step towards promoting sustainable practices, Qualität und Sicherheit GmbH (QS), the renowned German certification scheme ensuring the safety and quality of food and agricultural products throughout the supply chain, has granted recognition to the RTRS Standard for Responsible Soy Production for its contribution to sustainability in the soy supply chain.

Within the QS scheme, from January 2024, all soy being used in animal feed has to be sustainably certified against a standard recognized by QS, among which is the RTRS Responsible Soy Standard.

This recognition underscores the importance of adopting responsible practices in soybean production. QS acknowledges the RTRS primary production standards as equivalent to the requirements outlined in the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC) 2021 Soy Sourcing Guide, validating RTRS’s contribution to sustainability and responsibility in the supply chain.

QS acknowledges both the RTRS Chain of Custody Standard in its Segregation and Mass Balance modes and the RTRS Supporting Responsible Soy Credit system. Initially valid until December 2025, this recognition highlights the collaborative efforts of industry stakeholders and the importance of implementing sustainable practices from soybean production to commercialization.

“We accept all active standards in soy production that comply with the requirements of FEFAC Soy Sourcing Guidelines, and have strict criteria regarding the inspection system. Therefore, we are pleased to adopt the RTRS standard as it aligns with these requirements,” stated Sabrina Melis, Head of Business Development and Knowledge Transfer within QS.

“I take pride in seeing QS recognize our commitment to sustainable soy as a trusted standard for deforestation and conversion-free sourcing. Together, we are driving positive change for the environment, feed, and food worldwide,” said Lieven Callewaert, President of RTRS.
