Key players in Argentina´s agribusiness sector consolidate their multi-sectoral commitment

On Tuesday, August 22, Task Force Argentina held their local meeting in Rosario, Santa Fe. The meeting gathered 38 representatives of more than 20 organizations of the sector, including producers, agribusiness companies, civil associations, certification bodies and implementers, who had the opportunity to connect and discuss the most relevant issues and challenges of Argentina’s multisectoral agenda.

During the meeting, representatives of the RTRS Secretariat presented the main activities the Association as a global and multisectoral roundtable and shared updated information on the evolution of RTRS certification and adoption of certified material at a global level.

In addition, RTRS reviewed the main projects currently underway, including the revision of the RTRS Chain of Custody Standard, adding value to certified material through the measurement of the environmental footprint and relevant concepts such as regenerative agriculture, among others.

In the afternoon, several projects were presented by members, including Bayer, RTRS member since 2009 in the Industry, Commerce and Finance constituency; Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina (FVSA), RTRS member since 2007 in the Civil Society Organizations constituency and Tecnocampo S.A., RTRS certified producer since 2013.

Juliana Albertengo, Carbon Business Development & Alliances Manager at Bayer, presented the PRO Carbon Program, which aims to increase carbon sequestration in the soil through the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and referred to collaboration opportunities with RTRS.

On his part, Ulises Martínez, FVSA advisor, described the main actions promoted by the Soy Chaco Project, among which the following stand out: increasing the certified surface area; promoting the demand for RTRS certified material through RTRS Credits Supporting Responsible Soy and designing and implementing a Biodiversity Restoration and Conservation Plan.

As part of Tecnocampo S.A.’s presentation, Production Manager Andrés Laxague spoke about the company’s certification experience and gave details about the new group certification project intended to contribute to the growth of certification in the region and to add value to the commpany´s network of colleagues and clients.

Cassiano Facchinetti, representative of VICTAM LatAm, offered relevant information about the exhibition that will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil from October 3 to 5, where the RTRS 2023 Meeting Point will take place. The purpose of Cassiano’s participation was to bring all meeting attendees closer to the various connection and networking opportunities that this event will provide.
