Learning experience in Sorriso, Mato Grosso, Brazil

From February 9 to 12, the Round Table on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS) together with Club Amigos de la Tierra (CAT Sorriso) organized a field trip at Sorriso, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The gathering included the participation of about 30 representatives from organizations in the soybean value chain from 9 countries and other regions of Brazil.

The field trip was an ideal occasion to get to know RTRS certified establishments and, at the same time, an opportunity for networking and interaction among participants. Moreover, it provided participants a chance to:

  • Be present at soy harvesting and corn planting in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil´s largest grain producer
  • Witness the positive environmental and social impact generated by the production of sustainable soy in the region
  • Get to know the relationship between local communities and RTRS certified producers
  • Learn about the agricultural potential of the region and the joint work of producers together with local governments to promote sustainable farming activities

It was a truly valuable experience, which is why RTRS worked on a “trip agenda” where different moments and activities during the RTRS 2020 field trip are reviewed and recalled. We want those who had the opportunity to participate to recall their experience and share it with others, so that people who couldn´t make it this time have the chance to learn about the trip and recreate the experience.

In the link below, you can access to the itinerary along the different certified establishments, review meetings with producers and local government representatives, have an overview of the main characteristics of social projects visited and testimonials of participants about this learning experience.

The current global context requires people, countries and organizations to implement and learn new ways of exchanging and sharing experiences. We hope, for the sake of us all, to overcome the current situation in the best possible way as soon as possible, and, among many other important things, to have the opportunity to repeat valuable meetings as this one next year.
